Coagulation & Flocculation
Coagulation & Flocculation
Overview
This two-stage chemical process destabilizes and aggregates fine colloids and suspended particles. Coagulants (like alum or synthetic polymers) neutralize charges, while flocculants promote the formation of large flocs under gentle mixing. These flocs settle quickly or are filtered, improving sedimentation and filter efficiency
Benefits
- Reduces turbidity and suspended solids
- Improves downstream filter performance
- Removes color and organic matter
- Minimizes fouling of membranes
Applications
- Municipal water treatment
- Industrial clarification processes
- Pre-treatment before membrane systems
